Sludge treatment STP Łódź

In 2020, the "Wastewater Management, Phase III" project commenced at STP Łódź. Supported by the European Union, this project comprised various components, all aimed at enhancing the sustainability of the water treatment at the "Group Wastewater Treatment Plant of Łódź Metropolitan Area (GOŚ ŁAM)."

Within this project, Colsen supplied the NAS®-ONE technology to Budimex. Budimex served as the main contractor for two sub-projects of phase III. The construction of our NAS®-ONE installation allows for the efficient removal of nitrogen from the centrate. The system is designed to provide the necessary robustness and features to mitigate the negative effects of thermal hydrolysis (THP) on the centrate quality.

Colsen provided the technology (design, engineering, and key equipment) for this project and supported Budimex throughout the entire process, from design to construction, startup, and commissioning.

NAS-ONE Lodz

Applied technology

The sidestream treatment is carried out using the NAS®-ONE system. During the NAS®-ONE process, nitrogen is removed from the received wastewater through the anammox route. Anammox bacteria convert ammonium and nitrite into nitrogen gas without using oxygen or a carbon source. The NAS®-ONE installation in Łódź achieves a nitrogen removal of more than 75%.

The advanced aeration control and comprehensive sludge selection methods in the NAS®-ONE deliver a robust system to handle variations in the centrate quality. This installation treats centrate after mesophilic sludge digestion with thermal hydrolysis process (THP).
