WWTP & biogas - Colun
Colun
La Unión, Chili
2015
Capacity: 1,100 m³/day
COD load :1,550 mg/l COD
Biogas production : 545 Nm³/day
Partnering up with Ecopreneur Chile S.A., we offered a WTTP to Colun, a dairy processing company in Chile. The treatment system consists of several main components:
- Equalisation tank
- DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation)
- Anaerobic water treatment
- MBR (Membrane Bio Rector)
- UV disinfection
The new WWTP is part of the plans for a new factory, with Colsen taking responsibility the technological and technical design of the anaerobic water treatment system. These designs were later finalised by local suppliers.
Anaerobic water treatment design
The anaerobic water treatment system was designed as a UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket). The robustness and relative simplicity of UASB reactors have a wide range of benefits for clients over the course of system’s lifespan, both in terms of maintenance and operational management.
Separation of wastewater, sludge & biogas
Colsen also supplied the three-phase separators (settlers) and a biogas torch. The settlers separate the wastewater, sludge and biogas, with the latter being captured for further checks and testing. The biogas produced by the system is burned with the torch, after which the end user can decide whether the biogas can be put to good use, such as in a steam boiler or CHP system.
